Butter Projects launches Butter Press! Join us to celebrate and check out the first of many publications which serves as both a catalogue and extension of the exhibition with contributing writer, Maia Asshaq.

Butter Projects provided six artists with the items listed in the exhibition title. Given these materials and some loose parameters, they were invited to create a work of art in the gallery. Working with set restrictions and possibly unfamiliar media, presents an interesting challenge with an endless range of outcomes. Join us for the opening reception and see what they came up with!

On display through August 30, 2013 with a closing reception at 7pm. During the run of the exhibition, Butter will be open Fridays from 1-5pm and Saturdays from 1-3pm. Additional hours by appointment.

We'll be in the yard just across from Kunsthalle Detroit on
Friday, July 19 from 9-11pm & Saturday, July 20 from 1-3pm

Butter Projects invites drifters to join us to make some noise in Detroit. Step right up for your turn at the Buttering Ram to smash discarded material that will be collected and transformed for use in various artworks on display at Kunsthalle Detroit. All participants will have an opportunity to contribute to a collaborative installation.

BUTTER projects is getting in the mood for love this February.

Passion drives both love and art, producing an intimate bond whether with an artist and their work or between lovers. “I Like You and I Together” invites artist couples to display their works, side by side, investigating how a close relationship between two people might affect the work they're creating. Through art and love, we connect through shared influences and experiences as well as the differences that draw us to each other.

On display through March 16, 2013. During the run of the exhibition, Butter will be open Fridays from 1-5pm and Saturdays from 1-3pm. Additional hours can be made by appointment.

The works in "The Order of Things" speak to the varying methods of collecting, classification, and cataloguing of objects from both natural and man-made sources. The ways in which elements are ordered, deepens our interpretation and understanding of things. Thus providing a platform in which we, the viewer can draw connections among the objects and our own relationship to them.

"Rising & Falling" is an exhibition of epic proportions; focusing on histories, the artist doubles as storyteller with visual narratives that contain compelling tales that span the ages. We invite you to travel through time, from ancient to present day with accounts both real and imagined.

Participating Artists:

John Charnota, William Connally, Matthew Craven, Elliott Earls, Jessica Frelinghuysen, Christopher Gideon, Aimee Lee, Tiffany Massey and Eric McDade.

Also including work from the private collection of Adrian Hatfield and from the showrooms of Orley Shabahang.

Upcoming Exhibition

Proportional Scale focused on design, fabrication and formal elements that reference architecture. For our upcoming exhibition, we’re turning from the organization of space to that of time. Rising & Falling looks to the the past, examines the present and predicts the future through explorations in culture, narratives and heritage.

"Proportional Scale" includes work that draws inspiration from architecture. Participating artists employ the principles of art and design, with an emphasis on form and construction. Through material choices and modes of fabrication, these formal elements work in tandem to create larger systems. From simple to complex, these works offer an alternate approach to our understanding of and relationship with the spaces we occupy.
