SPARK -June 19

Please join us for the opening reception for SPARK! Saturday, June 19th, 6-9pm.

The theme of SPARK is collaboration. We've selected works from 9 artists and matched them up with 9 additional artists, who will then create a piece in response. With this exhibition, our hopes are to create dialogue between the two works and ultimately the two artists. In a way, we are forcing a collaboration and sparking a connection between two things that otherwise might not be possible.

Many works will be available for sale (cash or check).
BUTTER is located at 814 West 11 Mile in Royal Oak, MI, 48067. Parking is available behind the building.

We're busy getting ready for our next opening...
We've decided to develop our exhibit schedule by carrying one theme from the previous exhibition to the next. The upcoming show titled SPARK is centered around collaboration. We'll be curating works from 9 artists and matching them up with 9 additional artists, who will then create a piece in response. We're very excited about the show!

Grand Opening

Please join us for the grand opening!
Saturday, Feb. 20th, 6-9pm

BUTTER projects is a new studio and gallery space founded by Kelly Frank and Alison Wong.

The premier exhibition SOMETHING EVERYTHING features collaborative works by Frank and Wong. The exhibition theme stems from the relationship between the two artist, their work and vision for the space. Essential elements are used to discuss the process and development of art and life. Included in the show is the installation, Two for Ten, which uses brown bags to reference the building's history as a market. Each bag includes a mystery work of art on sale for $5 each to benefit future programming at BUTTER projects. Don't miss your chance to purchase limited edition pieces from the installation!

BUTTER!

We labored over the construction almost as much as the name...
Our vision was for a flexible place to make, talk about and exhibit art. It's about all the essentials, just like you'd get at the market. Some of the possible names included MEET and LOAF, but we just loved BUTTER. It's decadent, tasty, and yellow (our favorite color!). Everything good is made from butter! We're almost done, but you'll have to wait for the opening.

Thanks Guys

Still working... building moveable walls. We couldn't have done it without the help of John and Van.

Construction

Putting up drywall, with help from Chris (Kelly's dad) and John -
A lot of hard work but so worth it. We had fun, especially with the drywall drill. Thanks Dad!

Painting

Working on making the space our own.
Painting, cleaning and building our dream studio

SOLD!

Meeting with the landlord (Dennis)...
What a beautiful old storefront, inside and out. Dennis lets us know the rich history of the space. Built in 1915, it used to be a market, butcher shop, stain glass artist studio and lawyers office.
We can really see ourselves in here. A perfect studio and art gallery. We'll take it!

Could this be the one?
